    When he says he travels better alone, or that he doesn't need anyone with him, he's really saying "I don't want my hearts broken. Again." or "I'm tired of being timeless." He's tired of his companions withering away into dust while he stays as strong as ever. He doesn't truly want to be alone. He wants someone who can last as long as he can.
